Suited for 4WD
vehicles
Cairns via Daintree River Ferry,
Cape Tribulation and Bloomfield River
to Home Rule
Approximately 4.5 hours
The coast road is considered the
most scenic of the two routes, but 4WD is highly recommended.
Take the coast road north from Cairns to the Daintree
River, over the Daintree Crossing (there is a charge
for the car ferry), and on through the Daintree Wet
Tropics to Cape Tribulation. After Cape Tribulation
the road continues on to Bloomfield, across the Bloomfield
River and along the edge of Cedar Bay National Park
before reaching Rossville.

Suited for 2WD
and 4WD vehicles
Cairns via Mareeba and Lakeland
downs to Home Rule
Approximately 5 hours (318km)
This road is slightly longer than
the tropical coast road and there is still about 30
km's of dirt yet to be sealed between Lakeland Downs
and Cooktown. Easy access for most vehicles to the festival
but a full tank of petrol is recommended! From Cairns
take the road to Mareeba via The Kuranda Range. From
Mareeba head to Mt Molloy and take the Peninsula Development
Road through Mt Carbine and the Palmer River Road House
to Lakeland. At Lakeland take the Cooktown Developmental
Road as far as the turning to Helenvale. Take the Helenvale
turn on the right, just before Black Mountain National
Park, past the historic Lion's Den Pub to Rossville.
